As we continue to learn about which images you will need for your book trailer, first you must pull out that query letter. If you have written your query in the three sentence format it is this paragraph you could use.
Example: When John Smith discovers his wife Betty has glowing eyes and secret passports, it's up to him to uncover the truth. Is Betty an alien or something even more sinister? He thinks he's uncovered the truth, but that all changes when he discovers his own identity. (not the best example, but it will work)
Using this example it already has a mysterious feel to it, right? So we'll go with that. To me mystery equals dark shadows, so I would search for pictures that 'feel' like that. Maybe, black and white pictures interspersed with an occasional picture of Betty with glowing green eyes. Just something to give the idea of mystery and suspense.
Over these pictures you will place your text from your three sentence paragraph. Not word for word. Shorten it up, get just the essentials down and place the text on, or before each picture. Really you could try it many different ways. Be creative, but keep it clean, short, and snappy. Long or drawn out book trailers are boring, and you don't want to fall into this category.
Happy image hunting! Remember, this is YOUR novel, so have fun with it.
A side note: You may also consider using this idea to make videos of your class through out the year. At the end of the year you could show the video, complete with text and music, to the kids. Or, you could do this for birthday parties, anniversaries, vacations, etc. It really could be quite fun! Even practice with these ideas before doing your book trailer to get the hang of it.
Have fun!
Your post is dated for Saturday and just now appeared on my Google Reader. That's odd.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, don't mean to be off topic, but I'm looking for input from serious writers like yourself and your readers on a subject about which you may have some valuable opinions. Would you mind?

Thanks

Lee, I wrote the post on Saturday, but wasn't able to finish it until this morning. That's why the date shows it as Saturday. I wish it would mark the date I actually post. (I'll check into blogger and see if there is a way to change this. )
ReplyDeleteAs far as the link you provided, I'll pop over there and check it out. :)
Informative post on the book trailer process. I see a lot of them popping up on author blogs and even on publishing websites.
ReplyDeleteYour input is invaluable to those who share my technotarded abilities!
Keep the posts coming.
Cat, honestly I'm a technotard, too! Really. It took me weeks to put something together that should have taken a few hours. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, TK. I'm still agonizing over mine. ;)
ReplyDeleteVictoria, if you would like my help send me an e-mail at readmynovel@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteIn fact if anyone needs help just drop me an e-mail. I'd be more than happy to help.
TK thanks for the post, once I finish my MS and stop getting distracted by the blogging world I'll be sure to stop back for this great info :D
ReplyDeleteHi KBJ!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about distractions. I don't get writers block I get 'writers distraction'! But I love blogging, and getting to know each of you through your blogs.
I'll continue to add more posts about making your own book trailer. I feel they are a great way to get your book noticed, and reach your intended audience. I'm glad you found this information helpful. :)
